And they call this democracy?

Th

Dear Bureau members,

At tomorrow's Wednesday’s Bureau meeting you will choose a new DG and a new director for DG PERS. Good news – the decisions have already been made, behind closed doors, months ago. So you can have a short Bureau meeting for once.

Unless of course you are concerned that our top management selection procedures are mired in illegality, promotion of partisan mediocrity and inequality of treatment.

Advance newsflash

The job of DG will go to a certain Monsieur ‘Q’. He’s been doing the job since Mr ‘W’ left so no surprise there. There were of course no other candidates for the post…

M. Q’s old job as director will be for a certain Herr ‘R’. SGPOE is not questioning Herr R’s experience or ability. Far from it – that’s not our job. We simply note that there were a least a few other highly-qualified candidates who may or may not make better personnel directors. The sad fact is they didn’t get a fair chance. Everything was decided months ago. Behind closed doors. One wonders whether there were other selection criteria...

Illegal

What’s more, the SG was somehow so sure in advance how the dice would fall, he published the DG PERS director post before the current incumbent had even been promoted out of it. Bureau members – are you ready to rubber stamp this illegal decision?

Culture of mediocrity?

SGPOE denounces this way of running a public administration in the 21st century. More and more hard-working, professional colleagues are fed up and demotivated. Bureau members – do we want a mediocre, opaque, partisan administration? Or a high-quality, transparent, independent civil service working for all MEPs — in line with article 298 of the Lisbon treaty?

The choice is yours.
