Kristiina Ojuland MEP on Human Rights in Tibet
Saturday 04 February 2012Contrary to what many might think MeP Kristiina Ojuland is convinced that there are ways and means to oblige the Chinese authorities to respect Human Rights in Tibet.
She admits that one shouldn't be 'naive' hoping that the problem will be resolved all by itself but the political class in Brussels should mount the level of pressure on Chinese authorities to stop the violence against the populations. 'China is powerful, but it is not the only one in the world, - says Ojuland, - we all are interdependent. And there are tools at our disposal, like it happened in case of sanctions against Iran', but she underlined that nobody would be eager to go that way. International pressure should be sufficient to redress the Chinese policies towards Tibet. The hearings on Tibet are planned within soon.
