Statement by Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Commissioner Christos Stylianides on attack against International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen
"The European Commission strongly condemns the recent attack by armed gunmen on the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Aden, Yemen, which has caused the ICRC to relocate its staff.
"Such attacks are an affront to International Humanitarian Law (IHL). They not only threaten the safety of humanitarian workers, but jeopardize the effective running of much-needed humanitarian operations in Yemen.
"We call on all parties to the conflict to respect International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and to cease targeting humanitarian workers so that they can do their job and deliver humanitarian aid to people in need.
"The European Commission continues to provide humanitarian support to populations across Yemen suffering as a result of the conflict, as well as from malnutrition and food insecurity."
