A Munich brewpub found a new way to combat Europe's shortage of cooking oil. Customers can pay for beer with sunflower oil so that there are plenty of stocks to fry schnitzels.

Many European countries, including Germany, have experienced a decrease in supplies since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

Managers at Giesinger Brewery in Munich's southern city, Munich think they have the answer. They offer beer enthusiasts a litre of their favorite brew for the same amount of sunflower oil.

Erik Hoffmann, the pub manager, said that the whole thing was a result of running out of oil in the pub's kitchen.

Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, many German supermarkets have lost their sunflower oil and rapeseed bottles. Many shops also limit the amount of bottles they sell to customers.

Hoffmann stated that oil is difficult to obtain. He said that customers have exchanged 400 litres of oil so far.

A litre of beer is about €7 ($7) in German pubs. However, a 1-litre bottle of sunflower oil costs around €4.5. This makes the offer attractive for many customers.

Customer Moritz Baller purchased 80 litres in Ukraine of sunflower oil during a trip to deliver humanitarian assistance. He then swapped his shipment for eight crates beer for his birthday party.

He said, "The campaign was cool." "We can get cheap beer, and yes, Giesinger Brewery has also been helped."
