Silvertail Books is pleased to announce that FLIGHT OF FANCY – FARHAD AZIMA’S WEB OF DECEPTION, the enthralling tale of a mysterious aviation magnate, will be published globally later this year later this year. FLIGHT OF FANCY charts the life and times of Farhad Azima, an Iranian-American businessman who has courted controversy throughout his long business career.

Azima’s is a journey that boasts impressive highs – beautiful women, an extensive Washington D.C. contact book, and famous visitors to his luxury yacht in the South of France – offset by a recent fall from grace after the hacking and leaking of his sensitive personal information lead to him being sued for fraud in the U.K. High Court.

Azima first made his name as a plucky cargo airline operator during the last days of the Shah of Iran, running dairy supplies into the then milk-strapped country. Milk then turned to arms following the rise of the Ayatollah, with Azima’s aircraft running weapons into Iran and other global hotspots. Azima’s mix of official and unofficial work for the U.S. government in the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s netted him a multi-million dollar fortune, even though he was linked to the1980s US Savings and Loan Scandal.

Azima’s kingdom came crashing down during the global financial crisis following an introduction to Dr. Khater Massaad, a Swiss-Lebanese national at the head of the Ras-al-Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA). During the late noughties Massaad used Azima to broker a series of controversial deals, including several between RAKIA and three Iranian businessmen with ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps tasked with evading the U.S. sanctions regime. Massaad would eventually be found guilty of a billion-dollar fraud by Ras al Khaimah, with subsequent investigations by the Emirate also landing Azima in legal jeopardy. Azima’s woes were then compounded when his spurned Iranian business partners detained and beat Afsaneh Azadeh, one of Azima’s employees.

Bringing Azima’s fascinating tale to life is Humfrey Hunter, the former journalist turned author. On top of his own work, Hunter runs a thriving literary agency boasting clients that include football legend Kenny Daglish, former political editor of the Sunday Times and co-author of the headline-grabbing biography of David Cameron, Isabel Oakeshott, and the BBC journalist/broadcaster previously positioned in Afghanistan and Southeast Asia, Matt Potter.

Silvertail Books have set a publication date for March 2020. A spokesperson for Silvertail said: “Farhad Azima’s life shines a light onto the dark arts that are now used to grease global affairs, and of the pitfalls of playing both sides against the middle when governments are involved. FLIGHT OF FANCY will be a riveting and fascinating read which uses Azima’s life to show readers how the world really works.”

The leading independent publishing house based in the UK made their name by engaging with first time authors and award-winning investigative journalists alike.
