#GreenDeal - Timmermans argues that every euro of investment promotes a ‘green’ recovery
Addressing the European Parliament’s committee on the Environment (21 April) the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans reassured MEPs that a ‘green’ recovery is possible.
He said that if the EU is able to mobilize its investment capacity it will have to make sure that every euro is spent on the ‘new’ economy. Timmermans argued that if money is thrown at the old economy, then Europe would lose out twice by not investing in a sustainable future and wasting the resources Europe does spend.
Timmermans added that there is a strong duty for politicians to convince their constituents that the EU’s Green Deal is not a luxury, but is a way to future-proof the economy and reduce Europe’s dependence on fossil fuels and achieve net neutrality.
