#Coronavirus – Strengthened co-operation with social partners and civil society on migrants’ contribution to recovery

On 5 May, Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson (pictured) hosted a meeting with trade unions, employers’ organizations and civil society to kick off strengthened co-operation on the immediate challenges facing non-EU nationals and the role they play in economic and social recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.

Migrants and refugees are making vital contributions to the coronavirus response both in Europe and across the world. Many health and care assistants, supermarket staff, agricultural workers were born outside of the EU. These essential workers will also be part of the recovery phase. After the crisis, their contribution to the rebuilding of our economy will also strengthen the cohesion of our communities. Social partners agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the coming weeks.
