$10 billion raised to fund development of #Coronavirus vaccine – #Oxfam comment
Commenting on the announcement by the European Commission that $10.4 billion had been raised to fund the research and development of vaccines, treatments and tests for the coronavirus, Anna Marriott, Health Policy Manager for Oxfam said: “Most people will be happy to see public funds invested in the development of vaccines for the coronavirus. But governments must be clear about how this money is spent, and what conditions they are attaching to ensure that any eventual vaccine is distributed according to need, and made available to every individual, in every nation, free of charge. Vaccines should be a public good – not the private property of the pharmaceutical industry.”
The Coronavirus Global Response pledging marathon was launched on 4 May 2020.
