#Coronavirus – Commission to help the music sector overcome the crisis
The Commission has launched a call for proposals worth €2.5 million, entitled ‘Music Moves Europe – Innovative support scheme for a sustainable music ecosystem’. The call aims to support the recovery and post-crisis development of Europe’s music sector by helping it to become more sustainable.
Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Commissioner Mariya Gabriel said: “The coronavirus crisis has had an unprecedented impact on the music sector’s entire value chain, especially the live segments. It has also demonstrated the importance of addressing structural challenges with more sustainable solutions. We need to help the music sector adjust to the post-crisis reality, to recover in a more sustainable way and ultimately become more resilient. I want Europe’s music sector to flourish in all its diversity and to remain competitive in the global context.”
This is the third and final year of ‘Music Moves Europe: Boosting European music diversity and talent’, a preparatory action implemented by the Commission at the European Parliament’s request. The Commission will select a consortium to design and manage an innovative and effective support scheme that redistributes grants to recipients in the music sector, based on a needs assessment. The Commission expects to select the consortium by November 2020 to ensure that the funds can reach the recipients as early as possible in 2021.
The call complements other EU and national initiatives that provide immediate support to alleviate the impact of the coronavirus on culture in general, and music in particular – more information here.
