Ireland lags behind the EU average for establishing new businesses

Ireland remains below the EU average when it comes to establishing new businesses.

New figures from Eurostat show that only 8.2 per cent of businesses in Ireland are newly-formed.

This is slightly behind the EU average of 9.3 per cent.

Grace Bolton of the European Commission Office in Ireland says the figures show that the proportion of new businesses in Lithuania is twice the EU average.
