#BOZAR: Opening reception for Tong Yang-tze calligraphy exhibition in BOZAR
On 17 May, the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium (TRO) held an opening reception at BOZAR for the calligraphy exhibition ‘Silent Movement’ by Tong Yang-tze.
VIPs included the artist herself, BOZAR CEO and Artistic Director Paul Dujardin, Belgian MPs, as well as Belgian and EU officials. Mr. Dujardin said that he had been amazed by Madame Tong’s calligraphy works when he visited Taiwan two years ago.
He emphasized that BOZAR was honored to host this exhibit, together with the 2016 Queen Elisabeth Music Competition. Through her work, the public will be invited to engage in a visual form of contemplation, before and after the concerts.
Representative Kuoyu Tung stressed that after trying for several years to show Madame Tong’s works to a Belgian audience, the TRO is pleased to finally be able to welcome her to open the exhibition in Brussels. He thanked Dujardin for his full support for this exhibition, in which Chinese calligraphy is expressed in a rather untraditional way.
Madame Tong said that several indispensable factors have converged to make this exhibition possible, and she expressed her appreciation to the TRO and BOZAR. She described her creative process, saying she enjoys every moment of writing calligraphy, and hopes to share the long-lasting power of life and the beauty that she senses in calligraphy with the audience, as a way to show the intricacies of Chinese culture and to enhance Taiwan-Belgium friendship.
The exhibition will remain on display at BOZAR until 1 June, from 10am to 6pm (free entry).
