UKIP outrage as Europe fines UK £642m for poor accounting

Anger flared yesterday (13 July) after the European Commission fined Britain £642 million for poor accounting. UKIP agricultural spokesman Stuart Agnew (pictured) said in response: "A fine imposed by the EU, an organization that hasn't had it accounts signed off for twenty years, is a bit hard to stomach.
"It is a double whammy for the UK taxpayer who not only has to disproportionately subsidise agriculture in other recipient countries has now have to pay a fine for the privilege. An independent Britain would never have brought in such a complex system in the first place.
"DEFRA has been obliged to think with someone else's head and play fair at the same time.The future of the Common Agricultural Policy provides yet more administrative complexities and it is high time we ran our own agriculture."
