European Statistical Monitor: August edition
Eurostat has released the European Statistical Monitor, a dashboard with short-term indicators covering different areas, such as economy, environment, business, health and work.
This monthly updated dashboard is designed to track developments within the EU as a whole and its members, as well as the EFTA countries, providing a holistic overview of key developments. It focuses on monthly and quarterly indicators, ensuring up-to-date insights and includes a commentary, focusing on recent changes and trends.
The EU economy continues to grow, amid increased bankruptcy declarations and rising greenhouse gas emissions
The EU economy continues a moderate expansion with stable GDP growth, along with an increase in both bankruptcy declarations and business registrations. This growth follows a quarter of rising greenhouse gas emissions and increases in the general government gross debt-stock.
Looking at monthly business indicators, while industrial production fell compared to the previous month, retail trade and production in services both rose, the latter reaching an historical high.
Economic sentiment also improved, mainly due to increased confidence in industry, services and retail trade. However, it remains below its long-term average.
You can read the full analysis by opening the Eurostat commentary linked in the dashboard’s header.
The European Statistical Monitor is updated every month with the latest available data for each indicator.
