COP 20 in Lima: Key step on way to a global climate agreement in Paris
Ministers are in Lima this week to negotiate a text to succeed the Kyoto Protocol, which should then be finalized at a conference in Paris in 2015. The Parliament has sent a delegation of 12 MEPs to support representatives from the European Commission and the Council during the negotiations. Check out the links below to find out more about how greenhouse gases affect climate change.
The Parliament delegation is lobbying in Lima for an increase in the use of renewable energy as well as for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and for less energy consumption.
The delegation will meet Christiana Figueres, the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and meet up with their counterparts from other parliaments as well as local and international NGO representatives.
