Things we learned in plenary: Ukraine, Ebola, jobs, medication
In a historic vote on Tuesday (16 September), Parliamentarians in Strasbourg and Kiev voted simultaneously to approve the EU–Ukraine association agreement. Closer to home, the EP proposed to increase financial aid for farmers affected by the Russian agricultural import ban and urged the EU to use all possible means to combat the Islamic State. In a resolution passed on Thursday (18 September), MEPs supported the latest EU sanctions against Russia and proposed to increase funding to support farmers most affected by the Russian embargo on specific agricultural products.
The EU must use all possible means to help the Iraqi national and local authorities combat IS, including appropriate military assistance, MEPs said in a resolution adopte on Thursday.
The international community has underestimated the Ebola outbreak in West-Africa, which is now a threat to global security, said MEPs in a resolution voted on Thursday, urging improved access to treatment.
National governments' proposition for the draft EU budget for 2015 disregards their own pledge to stimulate growth and jobs, MEPs said after Council Presidency representative Enrico Zanetti presented it on Tuesday.
In an effort to create a digital single market, the EU should scrap roaming charges, promote e-commerce and improve data protection, said MEPs in a debate on Tuesday.More information
