Parliament1Latvia takes over EU Presidency from Italy

Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma will debate the incoming Latvian EU Presidency's programme with MEPs at 9h. The three-hour debate is likely to focus on the announced strategic priorities – a “competitive, digital and engaged” Europe - as well as on recent events. A press conference with European Parliament President Martin Schulz is scheduled for midday.

Foreign Affairs debate with Federica Mogherini includes Boko Haram, Ukraine, Egypt

Parliament will hold its annual debate on the main lines of the EU's foreign, security and defence policies with the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini at 15h. Later in the afternoon, MEPs will debate the recent atrocities in Nigeria, crisis in Ukraine, situation in Egypt and the case of the two Italian Marò, coast guards facing trial in India. Parliament will vote on separate resolutions on Thursday (15 January).

European Year for Development 2015

Plans for the European Year for Development (EYD2015), aiming to show how development co-operation benefits both rich and poor and help shape the global development agenda for the next 15 years, will be debated with Commissioner Neven Mimica and the Council in the afternoon.
