MEPs to pay tribute to Simone Veil
Tributes will be paid to Simone Veil, the Parliament’s first president since it was directly elected in 1979, on Tuesday (4 July) at noon in Strasbourg’s plenary chamber.
European Parliament President Antonio Tajani will lead the tribute with a statement about the French liberal politician’s life and work. This will be followed by a short video and a eulogy by Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the Liberal group, of which she was a member. The European anthem will conclude the tribute.
President Tajani will attend the official ceremony in honour of Simone Veil which will be held on Wednesday in Paris.
