MEP urges passengers to know their rights before going on holiday
Airline passengers in the West Midlands of the UK are being urged to know their rights before flying away on holiday. Research done by the consumer watchdog Which found that 60% of travelers from the West Midlands didn’t know what their rights were or felt they have not been given enough information.
West Midlands MEP Daniel Dalton (pictured) said: “If you’re travelling with an airline based in the EU or with a non EU-based airline flying to or from an EU airport, then you’re protected by the Denied Boarding Regulation. It is important to know your rights and it is not always about monetary compensation. For instance, if your plane is delayed by three hours or more, and irrespective of if the airline is to blame, you are entitled to food and drink.
“If the airline is to blame for the delay then you may be allowed compensation, the Citizens Advice Bureau website is an excellent resource and their advice is to read up before you depart for the airport.”
