#BeActive 2025 marks 10 years promoting sport and physical activity across Europe
Now in its tenth year, the EU's #BeActive campaign returns in the lead-up to the European Week of Sport. Launched to coincide with Olympic Day, this year's edition promotes physical activity as a driver of mental wellbeing and community-cohesion. It also addresses the challenges of a highly digitalised society, by encouraging citizens to reduce screen time in favour of more sport and physical activity. Three main messages frame the campaign: ‘Celebrating 10 years of the European Week of Sport', ‘#BeActive – Then. Now. Always', and ‘Move more, scroll less'.
"Daily physical activity is one of the simplest ways to improve our well-being and stay connected across generations, backgrounds and places,” stated Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Commissioner Glenn Micallef (pictured). “On Olympic Day, we want to make sport a part of everyday life with BeActive. This campaign will take us all the way to the European Week of Sport in September, marking 10 years of collective effort to get Europe moving.”
Since 2015, the European Week of Sport and its #BeActive campaign have encouraged active lifestyles across Europe, reaching 42 countries and regions and involving over 103 million participants in more than 353,000 events. Taking place again this year from 23 to 30 September 2025, thousands of awareness-raising and on-the-ground events will be organised across participating countries. Applications are also open for the new #BeActive EU Sport Awards, which recognize and celebrate projects across the continent encouraging sport and physical activity. The call will close on 24 September.
