20120124PHT36092_originalA delegation will this week (27-31 January) travel to Greece to investigate the repercussions of the Troika's policies, while MEPs will also hold a public hearing in Brussels to question stakeholders on the same issue as part of the EP's ongoing inquiry. Committees will look into environmental and aviation issues, political groups prepare for next week's plenary, an EP delegation travels to Ukraine, while European Data Protection Day will be marked on Tuesday 28 January.

The week starts with a public hearing on the Troika's work, bringing together stakeholders from Business Europe, the European employers' association, European trade unions and MEPs from the economic and social affairs committee. On Wednesday, six MEPs travel to Greece on a fact-finding mission that should shed further light on the impact of the Troika’s policies in bail-out countries.
On Thursday two different committees vote on rules concerning air travel. The environment committee votes on partial exemptions from the European emissions allowance system for intercontinental flights to and from  EU countries, while the transport committee  fine-tunes legislation to boost the efficiency of European airspace, which will make flights shorter, cut down on fuel and reduce costs for companies and passengers alike.

The environment committee votes Thursday on a proposal to ban fluorinated gases from new air conditioning and refrigerating systems as of 2025.
Tuesday 28 January is Data Protection Day. The issue is keenly followed by the EP, even before last year's revelations by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowdon. Strict data protection rules have already been approved by MEPs.

A delegation of 12 MEPs is expected to travel to the Ukraine for a two-day visit. Demonstrations and the government’s response to them will be discussed with officials, the political opposition and demonstrators.
On Tuesday and 29 January, the Parliament organises a seminar for journalists on the electoral campaign for the European elections in May.
