Commenting on the presentation of the College of the future European Commission by Ursula von der Leyen (pictured), Rasmus Andresen, budget and finance spokesperson of the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament, said: "Now there is more clarity about the allocation of portfolios in the new EU Commission.

"All candidates for the new posts should prepare themselves for tough hearings. The election in the EU Parliament will not be a foregone conclusion. Unfortunately, one personnel issue is already causing a lot of offence: It is completely incomprehensible that Raffaele Fitto, a representative of a far-right party, is to be given the post of Executive Vice-President.

"According to von der Leyen's ideas, he should be responsible for a large part of the EU budget. Can an anti-European manage EU funds? The fact that von der Leyen is rewarding Meloni's lack of support with a vice presidency is incomprehensible."
