Podcast: Making sense of transport with new glossary

In the latest episode of Eurostat’s Stats in a Wrap podcast, we discuss the latest changes in the transport sector and why having a common glossary for transport statistics matters.

The host Jonathan Elliott is joined by four experts on transport statistics: Eurostat’s Stefanie Hille, Francesco Dionori from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Rachele Poggi from the International Transport Forum (ITF) at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Alice Favre from the International union of railways (UIC).

In this episode, we take a closer look at how the new edition of the Glossary for transport statistics was put together. The project brought together close to 100 experts from 20 countries, including experts from national ministries, statistical institutes, international organisations and EU agencies.

As the transport sector undergoes significant changes, including the strong push towards electrification and the expansion of shared mobility services, statisticians have worked together to establish a shared language for transport statistics. Clear, harmonised definitions ensure that the transport data remains comparable across countries.
