Commission seeks input on future of New European Bauhaus
On Friday, 19 September, the Commission launched a call for evidence on how to strengthen the New European Bauhaus (NEB). The goal for the NEB is to enable local communities – which are increasingly impacted by current challenges such as climate change and housing pressures – to lead the transition to a sustainable and inclusive future. On the basis of feedback received, the Commission plans to adopt a Communication and a proposal for a Council Recommendation in December 2025.
Launched by President von der Leyen in 2020, the NEB aims to co-create buildings, public spaces, and neighbourhoods which are beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive; and to bring people together, in the spirit of creation and community. Five years later, the NEB has grown into a vibrant movement, supported by a strong community of over 1,900 organisations, which includes architects, designers, researchers, local communities and citizens. The EU invested 740 million euro in almost 700 projects across Europe and beyond, including for the reconstruction of Ukraine. In addition, the NEB Facility 2025-2027 provides a solid financial foundation for the years ahead to revitalise neighbourhoods through participatory design and co-creation.
The call for evidence will be open on the Have Your Say portal until 17 October. Citizens, professionals, experts and anyone who has an interest in the matter can submit their views.
