European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (pictured) travels to New Delhi, together with President of the European Council Antonio Costa. On 26 January, they both participated as Chief Guests in India's 77th Republic Day Parade celebrations, hosted by President of India Draupadi Murmu.

Today (27 January), both presidents will participate in a bilateral Summit that will take the unique partnership between the EU and India to the next level. In particular, negotiations are in the final stage for a free trade agreement that, if concluded, would create a market between 2 billion people, cutting €4 billion in annual tariffs for exporters of all sizes and securing supplies of crucial materials and products. Similarly, leaders are expected to conclude a Security and Defence Partnership to expand cooperation on defence industry, maritime security, secure connectivity and space.

Following the summit, Presidents von der Leyen and Costa, and Prime Minister Modi, will deliver statements to the press at 13:20, local time (8:50, Brussels time). Watch it on EBS

In New Delhi, President von der Leyen will also be accompanied by High Representative Kaja Kallas and Commissioner Maros Šefčovič, and other EU senior officials.

During her stay in New Delhi, President von der Leyen will meet with senior representatives of the Indian government and the business community. Audiovisual material of her visit will be available on EBS.
