downloadThe European Free Alliance (EFA) has welcomed the determined mobilization of the authorities and civil society in Corsica to denounce the incredible carelessness and deficiencies in the decision to tow the wreck of the Costa Concordia from Giglio Island to Genoa passing near Corsican coasts. The EFA and its new President François Alfonsi fully shares the concerns of the Corsican people:

  • It is unacceptable that the Italian authorities are unable to respond to questions concerning the measures taken to ensure the safety of the operation, including requests from the French government and its Environment Minister Ségolène Royal;
  • it is intolerable in the name of the pride of a State, that it endangers a heritage that is also Europe’s heritage, and particularly neighbouring populations concerned, starting with the Corsican and Sardinian peoples;
  • it is essential that the operation is postponed until all the answers are given to ensure ecological security in the zones crossed by this rescue operation, and;
  • the EFA will ask the European Commission to take up this crucial matter of safety of maritime traffic, particularly sensitive in the Mediterranean Sea, regularly affected by pollution inconceivable and unacceptable in the 21st century.
