Romanian authorities seize $4 million of assets in Andrew Tate case
Romanian authorities have seized goods worth 18 million lei ($3.95m) in a criminal investigation into alleged human trafficking. This led to the arrest and detention of Andrew Tate, a divisive internet personality.
The National Agency for the Management of Seized Assets (NAMSA) has placed into administration 29 movable assets over the past week, including luxury vehicles, watches, and cash in various currencies. It made the announcement late Saturday (14 January).
A Reuters reporter witnessed several cars, including a Rolls-Royce and BMW, being taken by Tate from Bucharest's compound to be stored.
Andrew Tate, his brother, and two female suspectsfrom Romania were arrested on 29 December on charges that they formed a criminal gang to sexually exploit six women. They denied any wrongdoing.
The detained challenged the 30-day arrest warrant. However, the Bucharest court for appeals rejected this week's challenge and declared that they should remain under police custody.
Andrew Tate was a former contestant in the UK reality TV show Big Brother. He is known for his misogynistic comments and hate speech.
His comments got him banned on all major social media platforms. However, his Twitter account was activated again in November after Elon Musk bought the platform.
Tate, who is of British and US nationality, said that women are partly responsible for being raped, and that they belong exclusively to men.
