The annual Presidency conference of the European Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM) is only three weeks away and space is quickly becoming limited, writes EAPM Executive Director Denis Horgan.

Taking place on 5 April virtually, the event will bring together key decision makers and thought leaders in the exciting new arena of personalised medicine. The conference is entitled: Determining a Path for Optimal Integration of Access & Diagnostics for All & Public Health Genomics.

Featuring a plenary on subjects ranging from, rare diseases, new methods for Molecular Diagnostics and RWE, genetic mapping, Big Data and the implementation of the EU beating Cancer Plan and the EU health Data Space, the speakers and panelists will be drawn from legislators, patient groups, payers, academia, industry, research and providers of cutting-edge technology.

Several MEPs will be in attendance, alongside representatives from member state health structures, the European Commission and high-level experts in all areas of personalised medicine. The goal of these central actors is to shape the future by ‘taking stock’ of where we are now and assessing where we need to go.

Diagnostics and Public Health Genomics technologies provides physicians with the ability to make educated diagnoses based on a patient’s genome which will lead to better health outcomes for rare inherited diseases and cancer.  With rising health-care costs an increasing challenge, genomics has the potential to reduce costs by ensuring that patients receive the right information and the right treatment at the right time.

The European Union, member state policy makers and regulators are critical in helping shape the landscape for the successful implementation of genomics and related technologies in healthcare.

The conference will build on the work that has been done by the influential Alliance over several years in the framework of the 1 Million Genome Declaration, EU Health Data Space as well as the EU Beating Cancer Plan
