REACT-EU: Commission approves additional aid of €923 million for recovery in Spain
The Commission has allocated €923 million for the relaunch and digital and ecological transition of Spain within the framework of REACT-EU. These funds will be implemented through the operational programs of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF). In Spain, the multiregional operational program for the ERDF will receive additional resources of €890m. They will allow the acquisition of more than 34 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the organization of the vaccination process in Spain, investments in products and services in the health sector and investments contributing to the transition to a green economy.
The ESF operational program in Aragon will receive an additional €25.5m to support the unemployed, the elderly and the disabled. Young unemployed people and those who are long-term unemployed will receive tailor-made support through suitable vocational guidance and training to enable them to improve their skills or acquire new ones. These funds will also make it possible to strengthen the protection of vulnerable groups, for example by supporting the care and social protection of the elderly, by ensuring the presence of additional sign language interpreters so that the hearing-impaired can access services more easily, with adapted social transport projects.
The ESF operational programme in Murcia will receive an additional €7.3m to finance the recruitment of additional educational staff during the pandemic and to put in place the necessary health and safety measures to allow face-to-face teaching of small groups in schools. REACT-EU is part of NextGenerationEU and provides additional funding of €50.6 billion (at current prices) to cohesion policy programs during the years 2021 and 2022. A press release is available online.
