imagesThe European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Kyrgyz Republic have concluded the Framework Agreement under which the Bank can start to provide financing support to investment projects in Kyrgyzstan. The agreement has been signed today by EIB Vice-President Wilhelm Molterer and Kyrgyzstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev.

The EIB finances investment projects in the countries which have co-operation agreements with the European Union. The Kyrgyz Republic is the third country after Kazakhstan and Tajikistan from the region of the Central Asian post-Soviet Republics that has signed a framework agreement with the EIB.

Background

The European Investment Bank, as the long-term lending institution of the European Union, supports the EU’s Policy in the following countries of Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. EIB project financing promotes prosperity and increased regional integration, which contributes to the stability of this region and helps forging stronger intraregional partnerships.
