Commission seeks views on CO2 emission standards for cars and vans and car labelling
The European Commission is inviting citizens and stakeholders to provide feedback on the CO2 emission performance standards for new cars and vans and the Car Labelling Directive.
With the launch of this public consultation, the Commission is accelerating preparations for the review of the CO2 standards Regulation, as announced in the Industrial action plan for the European automotive sector. That review will take into account relevant technological developments and the need for an economically viable and socially fair transition towards zero-emission mobility. The Car labelling review, in turn, will better inform consumers purchasing new vehicles and making sustainable choices, thereby further supporting manufacturers in meeting CO2 emission targets.
The automotive sector is of critical importance to the EU economy and plays a crucial role for the EU's industrial competitiveness, decarbonization and the clean energy transition. The calls for evidence and the joint public consultation (here and here) launched today will feed into the Commission's forthcoming evaluation and review of the cars and vans CO2 standards, and the review of car labelling rules.
Interested parties including industry, small and medium-sized enterprises, business organisations and civil society are invited to provide their views until 29 September 2025.
