#Taiwan Flemish delegation visits Taiwan

Ambassador_Juan_José_Gómez_Camacho_with_Koen_Verlaeckt,_President_Flanders_InternationalA five-person delegation led by the Secretary-General of the Flanders Government Department of Foreign Affairs Koen Verlaeckt (pictured, right) visited Taiwan from 11-15 January at the invitation of the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), with the objective of deepening bilateral relations.

The visit focused on cross-Strait affairs, research and innovation, and environmental protection. They visited several ministries, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and Hsinchu Science Park, as well as the Taiwan branch of the Leuven-based ICT research institute IMEC. Carine Van Hove, member of the Flanders SME Research Institute, Jan Haers, in charge of renewable energy at the Flanders representation to the EU, Jan Korthoudt, Director of Tourism at Flanders’ Department of Foreign Affairs, and Sam Vandenabeele, who is in charge of bilateral cooperation, accompanied Verlaeckt.

According to MOFA, the Flemish community and region is an old friend of the Republic of China and this visit is expected to deepen the existing excellent relations.
