194571-Quidditch-5c3f88-large-1454260832Harry Potter fans in Belgium are being given a unique opportunity to step inside the famous wizard’s world at a newly opened exhibition.

Harry Potter: The Exhibition opened at Palais 2 in Brussels Expo with special appearances by actors James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley in the Potter films.  Since its world premiere in Chicago, the exhibition has already had more than 3.5 million visitors and included stops in Boston, Toronto, Seattle, New York, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris and Shanghai.

Over a 1,400 sq mt space visitors can enjoy dramatic displays inspired by the Harry Potter film sets and see the amazing craftsmanship behind authentic costumes, props and creatures from the films.

Speaking at the launch on 30 June, James said: “It’s always amazing to meet Harry Potter fans in their hometowns. We have traveled to numerous cities with the exhibition and the fans are always a delight.”  Oliver added, “We are excited to return to Brussels. We remember what huge Harry Potter fans the Belgians are and can’t wait to see their reactions to the great props, costumes, and creatures.”

From the moment guests enter the exhibition, they are immediately immersed in the world of Harry Potter. Visitors are greeted by an exhibit host who sorts several lucky fans into their favorite Hogwarts houses, then leads them inside the exhibition where their journey to favorite scenes from the Potter films begins.

The exhibition features settings from the films’ most popular locations—including the Gryffindor common room and dormitory; classrooms such as Potions and Herbology; and the Forbidden Forest—which are filled with thousands of authentic props, costumes, and creatures used in the filming of the iconic series.   In addition to the beautiful environments and displays, there are several interactive elements.   Guests can enter the Quidditch area and toss a Quaffle ball, pull their own baby Mandrake in the Herbology classroom vignette, and even tour a re-creation of Hagrid’s hut and sit in his giant-sized armchair.

The exhibition, in Brussels for a limited spell, will be open daily. Timed-entry tickets are required, and the last entry will be one hour-and-a-half before the close. An exclusive audio tour is also available, providing behind-the-scenes insight into the making of the Harry Potter films, with commentary from the producers, prop designers, costume designers and creature designers.

Further comment came from Manu Braff, of Fire-Starter, the Brussels-based enterntainmet company which has helped bring the showpiece event to Brussels, who said: “The response in Belgium since the announcement in January has been incredibly exciting. It is clear that the exhibition is supported by a large group of enthusiastic fans and I’m thrilled to be part of the team bringing it Brussels.”

Eddie Newquist, chief creative officer for Global Experience Specialists (GES), another partner, said:  “We are thrilled to bring Harry Potter: the Exhibition to Brussels. We hope everyone will have a chance to be drawn into the magical spell of this exhibition, allowing them to relive their favorite moments from the films.  “This will be great for anyone who loves seeing how blockbuster films become a reality.”

Reduced ticket prices apply on Tuesdays while there will be late night openings on every first Friday of the month.  Ticket prices are €19  for adults and €14.90 for children, aged 4-14. Reduced prices for students, OAPs and groups.  Tickets to the exhibition are on sale here.
