#CohesionPolicy - EU invests in #SustainableTransport in #Czechia
The European Commission has approved an investment of over €223 million from the Cohesion Fund (CF) to purchase 36 electric units for high-speed railway passenger transport in South Moravia, Czechia. These new wagons, counting for more than 10,000 seats, will replace obsolete and old vehicles, offering passengers safer, faster and more comfortable journeys.
Cohesion and Reforms Commissioner Elisa Ferreira, said: “This type of projects are crucial to motivate citizens to choose greener and safer ways of travelling. I am happy that Cohesion policy is helping Czech people to benefit from modern, more comfortable and efficient rail services, while contributing to making the European Green Deal a reality.”
Once operational in January 2023, this project will increase the attractiveness and accessibility of public transport with positive effects on the environment and the economy. EU Cohesion Policy's support to Czechia to improve transport services amounts to over €6.7 billion during the 2014-2020 EU budget period.
