Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Council President Herman Van Rompuy have also visited the ballot box.

Turnout in Germany is considerably up: by 14.00 CET 25.6% of eligible voters had cast their vote, compared to 20.2% at the same time in 2009. Germany was also the country where most European Commission presidential debates were held.

Former Belgian King and Queen Albert II and Paola have voted for the first time in 20 years. The couple voted in Laaken, Brussels.
