#Terrorism: 'Salah Abdeslam was preparing something in Brussels,' says Belgian Foreign Minister Reynders
According to Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam (pictured), who was caught in Brussels on Friday 18 March, was preparing attacks in Brussels just before he was arrested.
"Many weapons and a new terror network have been uncovered in the city", the Belgian foreign minister said in Brussels. "He [Salah Abdeslam] was ready to restart something in Brussels."
The 26-year-old French national Salah Abdeslam, who was born and raised in Belgium, spent four months on the run until Belgian and French policemen finally caught him in the Brussels area of Molenbeek on 18 March.
Foreign Minister Reynders added that the number of suspects had risen markedly since the attacks on 13 November 2015, when Islamic terrorists killed 130 people in Paris. Among the terrorists was also Salah Abdeslam's older brother, who killed himself during the attacks.
Salah Abdeslam is now imprisoned in Bruges in Belgium, where he is fighting extradition to France, which eventually could take up to three months.
