Commissioner Johansson participates in Justice and Home Affairs Council

Today (8 June), Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson (pictured) will take part in the meeting of EU interior ministers. Ministers will adopt progress reports on two European proposals in the area of ​​internal security (Europol and the resilience of critical entities) as well as on the New Pact on migration and asylum (including proposals relating to the Regulation on the EU Asylum Agency and the recently concluded negotiations on the proposal for a Blue Card Directive). Ministers will then exchange views on the homeland security outlook in relation to artificial intelligence and discuss lessons learned from tackling crime during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a working lunch, Commissioner Johansson will report to ministers on the latest developments and progress in the management of migration, security and border protection with the partner countries concerned. In the afternoon, the Commissioner will present to Home Ministers the recently adopted Schengen Strategy, including a legislative proposal to revise the Schengen evaluation and monitoring mechanism. It will also inform participants about interoperability, including the implementation of the entry / exit system and the European Travel Information and Authorization System, as well as the implementation of the Regulation on 2019 European Border and Coast Guard Corps. At the end of the day, the incoming Slovenian Presidency will present its work programme from 1 July. A press conference with Commissioner Johansson will take place around 18h CET, live on EbS.
