EU provides €40 million in humanitarian aid to help Ukraine prepare for winter
Faced with continued attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, the Commission is increasing its humanitarian funding for vulnerable Ukrainians by an additional €40 million ahead of winter. Of this, €35 million is allocated to humanitarian projects in Ukraine and €5 million to support Ukrainian refugees and their host communities in Moldova.
The main objective of this funding is to help Ukraine prepare for the harsh winter months. Together with its humanitarian partners, the EU aims to repair damaged buildings, ensure electricity and heat supply, and provide shelter to those most in need.
In Moldova, the new funding targets the most vulnerable refugees, to provide them with protection and access to basic services, and to improve preparedness for further refugee flows.
This announcement comes as Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarčič (pictured) has attended a regional civil protection forum in Lithuania, which focused on mobilizing additional support for Ukraine ahead of winter. During his visit, he will meet Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė.
