Immigration: Tajani-Borisov meeting
European Parliament Vice President Antonio Tajani, responsible for security and inter-religious dialogue and vice president of the European People's Party, has met Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov (pictured) in Varna.
"The long and fruitful discussion with Prime Minister Borisov has confirmed that the European response to immigration should be united and based on solidarity," Tajani said.
According to Tajani: "Bulgaria, being an external border of the EU, faces similar problems as Italy". For this reason, "all EU member states must take responsibility, providing solidarity for border-countries which should not be left alone."
Tajani has underlined that "immigration will be a key issue on the agenda of the next Congress of the European People's Party in Madrid". "This will be an important opportunity to define the strategy of the largest European political family on the issue and the Bulgarian delegation will have a major role to play."
"In the geopolitical order, Bulgaria, with its political and economic stability, plays a fundamental role for the entire Balkans and also for Europe. This is also the result of an excellent use of European structural funds by Bulgaria," he concluded.
