Bosnia's election commissioner (CIK) confirmed preliminary results for the 2 October presidential, parliamentary and statewide elections. This confirms the dominance of nationalist parties at all levels of Balkan country governance.

The CIK confirmed that non-nationalist Croat (Bosnian Muslim), and Bosniak (Bosnian Croat) candidates won the seats on the tripartite Inter-ethnic Presidency. A candidate from a pro-Russian party also secured the seat as a member of the Serb presidency.

Bosnia is still a dysfunctional state, almost 30 years after the tragic conflict between its Serbs and Croats.

The country was divided into Bosniak-Croat autonomous regions and Serb independent regions. Since the war, the central, regional, and local contests have pitted incumbent nationalists against candidates who want to reform the economy.

The CIK didn't publish the results for the president or vice-president in the Serb Republic. This was after it had ordered recounts of ballots to resolve complaints from the opposition that the vote had been rigged by Milorad Dodik, a Serb separatist leader.

Dodik looks poised to win the race for the regional president against Jelena Trivic, albeit in a close race. He said that he would bring criminal charges against CIK because they failed to publish the presidential results before the deadline.

He called for a protest rally in Banja Luka, the de facto capital of the region, on Tuesday to protest against the illegal decision by CIK to order recounting of the ballots.

After the vote, the opposition parties who had accused him of rigging it have held two large rallies in Banja Luka. They requested that the CIK repeat the election in Serbian Republic, but the commission denied their request.

Dodik, a long-time advocate of the separation of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and its unification, stated that the region would in the future organize an election on its behalf, in clear violation of state institutions.
