Finnish PM tests negative for drugs in wake of leaked party video
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin passed a drugs test after she was exposed to video footage of her having a party with friends last week, the prime minister's office announced Monday (22 August).
Videos of Marin, 36, dancing at a party last week began to circulate on social media. They were quickly published by many media outlets in Finland as well as abroad. Marin expressed her dismay that videos of her dancing at private parties had been published online. She said they were intended to be seen only by friends.
Marin, the youngest-serving government leader in the world, agreed to undergo the drug test on Friday (19 August). She stated that she had never used drugs before and that no one had done so at her party.
Marin, the Social Democrat leader, also stated that her ability to perform her official duties was unaffected on Saturday night and that she would not have left the party if she had been forced to.
Marin has received support from some Finns, while others have raised concerns about her judgment.
