Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)
Commission approves new geographical indications from Italy and Türkiye
The Commission has approved the addition of ‘Cirò Classico' and ‘Mut Zeytinyağı' to the register of Protected Designations of Origin (PDO).
‘Cirò Classico' is a red wine produced in Calabria, Italy. It is ruby red in colour with an intense and complex aroma and a full-bodied, harmonious and lingering taste, which tends to become increasingly velvety with ageing. It is appreciated for the intensity and complexity of its fragrance, with aromas of red fruit and with specific spicy notes. Its profile reflects the area's diverse soils and centuries-old winemaking expertise.

‘Mut Zeytinyağı' is an extra virgin olive oil, produced in the region known as ‘Mut Region', in south-east Türkiye. It has a high level of fruitiness, bitterness and pungency. Early-harvest oils display notes of green almond, wildflowers and freshly cut grass, while late-harvest oils offer aromas of banana, sweet almond and wildflowers. Its characteristics are shaped by the region's microclimate, cultivation traditions, and specific olive variety.
These new designations join the more than 3,670 protected names already listed in the eAmbrosia database. More information is available in the Quality Policy pages.
