Mykhailo Podolyak (pictured), the Ukrainian presidential advisor and peace negotiations negotiator, stated on Saturday (29 May) that no agreement with Russia can be trusted, and added that force was the only way to end Moscow's invasion.

"Any agreement with Russia doesn't make sense," Podolyak said on Telegram. Is it possible to negotiate a deal with a country which lies constantly cynically, propagandistically?

After peace talks fell apart, Russia and Ukraine blame each other. The last face-to-face negotiations were held on March 29. The Kremlin stated earlier this month that Ukraine wasn't showing any willingness to resume peace talks. Officials in Kyiv blamed Russia.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, stated that the only person worth speaking to is Vladimir Putin, the Russian president. He made all the decisions.

It doesn't matter what their foreign ministry says. "It doesn't matter if he sends some negotiation group to us... all these people, unfortunately," he said to Dutch television in an interview that was filmed Friday.

Putin claims that Russian forces are conducting a special operation in Ukraine to demilitarize it and expel radical anti-Russian nationalists. That is a false pretext, according to Ukraine and its allies.

Podolyak stated that Russia has shown that it is a barbarian state that threatens global security. "A barbarian cannot be stopped with force."
