The big leap forward: 10 years since EU's largest ever enlargement

Ten years ago today (1 May) the EU took a giant step forward when it welcomed ten new member states. The EU has always been about overcoming Europe's long-standing divisions and enlargement has been a way to unite countries. To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the EU's largest ever expansion, we are providing information on enlargement, from the first new members in the early 1970s to the latest one last year.
