On the occasion of World Food Day, foodora supports global efforts to fight hunger with ShareTheMeal
In recognition of World Food Day on 16 October, an occasion dedicated to promoting global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger, foodora, a leading food delivery platform in Central and Northern Europe, reaffirms its commitment to combating hunger through its partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and its ShareTheMeal app. This feature enables users to donate meals directly to people in need, with current focus on supporting humanitarian efforts around the world.
A collaborative effort to fight hunger
Following a partnership with the World Food Programme's ShareTheMeal initiative, foodora launched the programme through the creation of the donation feature in its app in Austria, Hungary, Norway, and Sweden.
Through the ShareTheMeal feature, users are prompted to donate after completing their orders on the platform, with the funds going directly to the World Food Programme’s efforts to distribute meals to those in need. Since joining the initiative, foodora users have donated more than 150,000 meals overall:
- 103,000 meals in 2023
- Almost 52,000 meals so far in 2024
Currently, all donations made through foodora’s platform are directed to different WFP’s humanitarian programs dedicated to providing crucial support to vulnerable communities like in Ukraine (Hungary and Sweden) and for children in need around the world (Norway and Austria).
Local initiatives: Combating hunger across CEE and the Nordics
Beyond its partnership with WFP, foodora is committed to addressing hunger through local initiatives in the markets it serves.
- In Hungary, foodora operates virtual restaurants on its platform to directly support charitable organizations. Users can purchase items through these virtual restaurants, with the entire value of the purchase going to organizations such as Hungarian Food Bank Association, MyForest Foundation, Hungarian Red Cross, Smile Foundation, Vigyél Haza! Foundation, Ronald McDonald Children's Aid Foundation. This innovative approach provides a direct donation line to organizations working on the frontlines of hunger relief, further reinforcing foodora’s dedication to supporting communities in need.
- In Finland, foodora has joined forces with World Vision Finland's Kouluruoka campaign, aiming to provide school food for all children by 2030. This initiative marked its successful debut in the foodora application during the spring of 2024. Following its success, an additional campaign ran from August 9th to August 31st, 2024. During both periods, users had the opportunity to make donations through the foodora app, being redirected from the app to the World Vision Page.
In honor of World Food Day, foodora encourages everyone to make a difference by using the ShareTheMeal feature in its app to donate after placing an order in Hungary, Austria, Sweden and Norway. Together with the World Food Programme, foodora aims to expand its reach and impact, ensuring that fewer people around the world go hungry.
