Gianni Pittella from Malta: 'Europe united against #Trump!'
Speaking at the PES pre-summit leaders meeting in Malta, S&D Group President Gianni Pittella said: "We send a clear message from Malta to President Trump. We will not tolerate you undermining EU values and threatening our democracies.
"Today's meeting must pave the way for a strong and united European answer to the refugee crisis. "We must close the Mediterranean route by stabilising Libya and creating legal channels for migration.
"Ahead of the Rome Summit we must stand up for a progressive agenda focused on investment and jobs and the creation of a true European social pillar.
"An EPP monopoly of the three EU institutions is an obstacle to achieve these progressive goals that are so much needed by European citizens. We will thus open discussions on the future of the Presidency of the European Council."
