The new Construction Products Regulation has entered into force. This regulation modernises the 2011 rules, facilitates the sale of construction products across the EU single market, supports innovative construction techniques, and strengthens the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector.

In particular, the new rules mark an important milestone in the digitalisation of the construction sector. Digital product passports will provide all the information on construction products, including the declaration of performance and conformity, safety information and instructions for use. This will also make it possible to calculate the carbon footprint of a building reliably.

The new Construction Products Regulation is revolutionizing the construction sector. It helps builders, architects, engineers, consumers and public authorities to make the right choices based on the performance and sustainability of construction products.

The new regulation will enhance the competitiveness and productivity of the construction sector. It will enable the EU to promote innovative and sustainable techniques, including prefabricated or modular elements such as façade systems. The increased use of off-site construction methods will reduce costs and speed up the delivery of much-needed housing, both new builds and refurbishments. These technologies can lead to a 10-15% reduction in construction waste during the production and manufacturing phases. In addition, prefabricated units can be dismantled and reconfigured for re-use at the end of their life cycle, further enhancing the sustainability benefits.
