Talks on an Inter-institutional Agreement on Better Regulation to open soon
European Parliament negotiations with the Council and Commission on an Inter-institutional Agreement on Better Regulation should open officially soon. ALDE group leader Guy Verhofstadt will conduct the talks on Parliament’s behalf.
On Thursday (11 June), the Conference of Presidents (European Parliament president and political group leaders) unanimously endorsed the intention of the President of the Parliament, Martin Schulz, to propose to Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Latvia’s Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, for the current Council Presidency, and Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, for the incoming Presidency, that negotiations on the Inter-institutional Agreement on Better Regulation should start in the margins of the 25-26 June 2015 European Council.
The Conference of Presidents also backed Schulz’s proposal that ALDE group leader Guy Verhofstadt conducts the negotiations on Parliament’s behalf. He will regularly brief the Conference of Presidents. His mandate will be established and updated by the Conference of Presidents, drawing on the expertise of the Legal Affairs and Constitutional Affairs committees. Their committees’ chairs, Pavel Svoboda and Danuta Hübner, will also take part in the discussions on this dossier.
