New Digital Product Passport (DPP) web page launched

The European Commission has launched the new Digital Product Passport web page, providing economic operators, public authorities, consumers and other stakeholders with a central source of information on one of the key initiatives supporting Europe's transition to more transparent product information. 

Developed as part of the implementation of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the DPP will make important product information more accessible throughout a product's lifecycle. The new web page explains how the DPP will work, what it means for different stakeholder groups, and how implementation will progress across product sectors.

The DPP is designed to improve transparency across value chains by providing product information in digital form. Depending on the product group, a DPP may include information such as

Progressive implementation 

The DPP will be introduced progressively through product-specific legislation under the ESPR framework or via sector-specific legislation. Implementation will begin with certain types of batteries (including industrial batteries, batteries for light means of transport and electric vehicles batteries), with additional product groups expected to follow over time, including textile apparel, iron and steel and construction products. The information available within each DPP will depend on the relevant legislative requirements for each product group.
