Commission discusses security of gas supply with member states at the Gas Co-ordination Group meeting
Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson opened an ad hoc meeting of the EU Gas Coordination Group on 19 January together with experts from member states, ENTSO-G and other gas sector organizations to discuss security of supply and storage levels across the EU. In her opening remarks, Commissioner Simson informed participants about ongoing work within the Commission to monitor the gas market and assess possible scenarios, and her contacts with international partners and suppliers. She recalled the importance of risk preparedness and of solidarity among member states. The Commissioner invited member states to continue closely monitoring the situation at national, regional and European level and update contingency plans. The security of supply situation in Ukraine and in the EU neighbourhood was also discussed at today's meeting.
