Commission makes available €600 million for cross-border energy infrastructure projects
The European Commission has opened a new Connecting Europe Facility (CEF-E) call worth €600 million for cross-border energy infrastructure projects.
Enhancing interconnectivity is essential for the EU to transition towards a decarbonized and resilient energy system based on homegrown, clean, abundant and affordable energy and accelerate electrification. These goals are at the core of the European Grids Package and of AccelerateEU, the Commission's plan to address the energy crisis sparked by the conflict in the Middle East.
Open until 30 September 2026, the call is addressed to the so-called Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) that feature on the Union's PCI and PMI list. This is the first call for proposals under the second PCI/PMI list of cross-border energy infrastructure projects selected under the Trans-European Networks for Energy Regulation. PCIs are designed to complete the Energy Union and contribute to climate-neutrality objectives to ensure that all Europeans have access to affordable, reliable, and renewable energy. PMIs are key energy infrastructure projects that are promoted by the Union in cooperation with third countries.
